For several months, a newly-organized Christian Party has been attempting to qualify for the Louisiana ballot. It needs 1,000 registered members, and says it now has 300 registered members. It is running Anthony Marquize for U.S. House, 2nd district. This is the district centered on New Orleans. Marquize cannot have the party name on the ballot next to his name because the party is not yet ballot-qualified. Marquize is one of three independent candidates who have qualified in that race...

According to the chairman of China’s largest credit rating agency, “The US is insolvent and faces bankruptcy as a pure debtor nation….”

For years, Beijing has bankrolled Washington’s deficit spending, including the trillions of dollars spent in recent years to expand the Homeland Security apparatus and pay for two useless foreign wars.

The previously quoted Chinese official makes a telling point when he observes that “the huge military expenditure of the US is not created by themselves but comes from borrowed money, which is not sustainable.”

A Plea for Self-Initiative and Maturity

In America today, everyone thinks you should just go to college after you're done with high school. Parents just assume it is their duty to make sure their child goes off to the university. Very little thought goes into this decision - other than which university.

I want to proffer the idea that maybe one should not go to college at all. Statistically, over 65% of college graduates never use the degree they received when they go out to work in the real world. In order to get their degree, the average college graduate accumulates $24,000.00 of debt. The debt for those who go on to graduate studies is routinely well over $100,000.00.

Dear Friends,

Here is a report from Courthouse News Service of a minor who had solicited the services of baby butchers in Los Angeles, and who apparently had hoped for a nice, tidy killing of her child. However, the ugly truth of what prenatal child-killing is came to light in a very horrific way. Here are excerpts from the article:

"The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord" (Proverbs 16:33).

The word "luck" is a word that should be banished from our vocabulary. According to the scriptures, there is no such thing as "luck", for all things are foreordained by God. The casting of the lot is ordained by God, for He disposes of all things by His sovereign and absolute and all wise counsels. The movement of the heavenly bodies is by God's determinate counsel and foreknowledge. Every germ and bacterium on the earth is under the sovereign control of God. All atomic activity is by God's sovereign decree. God works all things after the counsel of His Own will (Ephesians 1:11). As our text this week says, "the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord".

Apparently the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had at least heard about the suicide of Gabriel Myers.

Myers' death by hanging happened in a Florida foster home last year, but that wasn't the main reason it triggered a major reaction at Florida's Department of Children and Families.

The real reason: He was 7 years old.

Whatever else might have helped lead such a young child toward ending his life, one detail was impossible to ignore: The boy was being treated with three different psychotropic medications.

John Calvin on Isaiah 66:22 and the New Heavens and the New Earth

Sometimes I think the only real reading of John Calvin many do is excerpts from his Institutes. Here in Isaiah 66 we see John Calvin speaking of the “New Heavens” and the “New Earth” being a present reality for the current Age, not a time to come.

22. For as the new heavens. Here he promises that the restoration of the Church shall be of such a nature that it shall last for ever. Many might be afraid that it would be ruined a second time; and therefore he declares that henceforth, after having been restored by God, its condition shall be permanent. Accordingly, he mentions here two benefits of surpassing excellence, restoration and eternity. When he speaks of “new heavens” and a “new earth,” he looks to the reign of Christ, by whom all things have been renewed, as the Apostle teaches in the Epistle to the Hebrews. Now the design of this newness is, that the condition of the Church may always continue to be prosperous and happy. What is old tends to decay; what is restored and renewed must be of longer continuance. (Hebrews 8:13.)

"Being predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His Own will" (Ephesians 1:11).

Last week we showed the sovereignty of God in creation, providence and salvation. This week, we wish to show that God is absolutely sovereign. Actually, the term "sovereignty of God" is being used more today than in my earlier years, and for this we are thankful. The renewed interest in the doctrines of grace and calvinism is an encouraging sign. But I suspect that many who are using the term "sovereignty of God", do not really believe it as the Bible says.

The Abominations Pile Up

Brief Overview:

…cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; thorns also and thistles shall it bring for to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground… (Gen. 3:17-19).

Have you ever skipped a meal? Perhaps you were fasting, or too busy. Perhaps you were broke at the moment and away from home? Have you ever felt how the stomach turns upon itself when you haven’t eaten? If you’ve ever experienced that hunger, then you know what you do in that situation: you go get something to eat. But what if it wasn’t that easy? What if getting something to eat required a tremendous effort beyond your ability? Then you might end up like one of those… street people. And what if you found yourself always hungering while at the same time watching everyone else around you live in relative ease? Would not the question arise, “Why?” Why is this happening to me? If you had a religious fiber in you, you may ask the corollary question, “Why is God letting this happen to me?”
